2011 Ride #7

Another day, another short suffer-fest. Although, actually, I didn’t really suffer quite as much today as yesterday … my max HR today was one point less than my average heart rate yesterday; and today’s average HR was 17 points below yesterday’s. I think that might actually be a good thing.

First time on the bike in just over a month … and I suffered like the fat pig that I am, at least while turning the pedals. The downhills were a joy … it’s kind of nice being able to hit 40mph on a descent without having to work.

Rode with Bart [...]

I kind of felt like the space shuttle Challenger today … I pretty much exploded immediately after launch. AvgHR 168bpm, MaxHR 184bpm … on the flats, while doing a whopping 15 mph. The absolute lowest my heart rate got was 143bpm …

The bright side is that I finished the loop, [...]

First loop of Wasatch Blvd today; legs felt heavy, especially after yesterday’s effort up Emigration Canyon, but in general I felt pretty good today. Definitely ahead of where I was last year at this time, so let’s see if the spring-like conditions stick around and I can continue to put in the [...]

I miss San Francisco

Tonight, I miss San Francisco … I miss A Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito (and Tony Tom, the owner) and City Cycle in the Marina (and Clay Mankin, RIP) … I miss the Hi-Ball Lounge in North Beach and I miss Spencer’s upstairs in the back room of the DNA Lounge … and I miss the [...]

It was definitely a semi Emi day today … felt okay for not being on the bike for 2 weeks, but was definitely feeling it in my legs and lungs.

Saw a friend and her husband (at least, I’m pretty sure it was them, [...]

2010 Ride #23

Screwed up the GPS today; so you’ll have to take my word for it.

Down Holladay Blvd. to Cotton Bottom, then up past the Old Mill to Porcupine. South on Wasatch to Danish Road; Danish to Bengal Blvd. to 27th East, back to Porcupine on Fort Union, then dropped back down past the Old Mill [...]

The sun did manage to come out long enough for me to out on the bike for an hour or so, but when it dipped behind some rather ominous clouds, it got awfully cold for how I was dressed. At least Earth Day wasn’t [...]

20th East to Sunnyside to Emigration to the summit of Little Mountain, then Wasatch to the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon, dropped the Old Mill, then Holladay Blvd home. 38.15 miles (longest of the season thus far), 2537 feet of climbing (most vertical of [...]

Ride #2 for the year, and it’s obvious that whatever fitness I gained on my trip to Arizona over Christmas is now gone. With an AvgHR over 160, peaking out at 179, I was definitely struggling on anything even remotely resembling a climb … [...]
