SNOW-BOUND [The sun that brief December day]

The sun that brief December day Rose cheerless over hills of gray, And, darkly circled, gave at noon A sadder light than waning moon. Slow tracing down the thickening sky Its mute and ominous prophecy, A portent seeming less than threat, It sank from sight before it [...]

JOEY AWAKE NOW

Some poems, right some poems.

I’m a lover of poems. And yes, we lovers of poems

must stick together. Don’t mind me. Pardon? Glenn? Glenn? Glenn. It is nice to meet you, Glenn.

You are thinking you are in luck. Because look,

a strange old man has joined you at the bar. [...]

Poetry Friday

For a dear and beloved friend in San Francisco, who was ordained into the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi on August 10 of this year.

WRITTEN ON THE WALL AT CHANG’S HERMITAGE

It is spring in the mountains. I come alone seeking you. The sound of chopping wood echoes Between the silent peaks. The [...]

Poetry Friday

Where have the people gone? [...]

Hot hot hot

Oh my hell, is it hot!

I can’t believe I just typed “Oh my hell” … I’ve been living in Utah for too long; local colloquialisms are starting to rub off on me …

But that’s not the point. The point is that it’s been effin’ hot the past few days, and my air conditioner [...]

Stymied by the weather

Sigh …

What a wasted weekend. Friday night was wonderful, but I slept in yesterday (sort of … got up at 5:00, went back to bed at 8:00, then got up at noon), expecting the storm to roll through yesterday, and the weather to clear up today so I could go skiing

But no … [...]

Video Poetry (part fire)

ALKALINE TRIO – BURN

There’s a lightning storm each and every night Crashing inside you like motorbikes We toss and turn, sleep so loud Grind the teeth in our empty mouths Our empty

There’s a forest fire burning bright Spreading quickly towards our last rights Nowhere to run, pointless to hide Just lay there [...]

Snow storm 12/20/2007

Snow storm 12/20/2007, originally uploaded by flahute.

As of 10:30 pm, we have already got 3-inches of fresh snow in Holladay; after an afternoon of temperatures in the mid 40s, causing almost all the previous snow on the valley floor to melt.
