Caught a bit of a cold, but the weather is absolutely gorgeous out today … I couldn’t allow myself to waste the day on the couch; so out for an easy 15 miles through Holladay, Murray, and Millcreek. Legs were a little heavy, lungs were a bit tight, but ultimately, it felt good to get out there.

Two weeks off the bike due to travel last weekend, and pure laziness during the week after work. Throw in the cold or whatever sinusy-sore throaty illness I’ve got right now, and it wasn’t a particular good day on the bike. Stayed flat, stayed slow, but added another 17 to this year’s total. Slowly but surely this year’s mileage keeps getting bigger.

Nice and cool, the air was clean … but the air was thick; once again, had problems breathing, even on essentially flat ground. But it still felt good to get out there for a little while and get the heart pumping and the legs turning. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier, like last weekend.

It’s really, really muggy this morning … yuck. The air is thick and it’s hard for this boy to breathe, but it still felt good to get outside, if only for a little while.

Stayed flat in Holladay and Murray. Now, shower (again), then down to Library Square with the girlie (who is back from NorCal again; she must like me for some inexplicable reason).

Not feeling so hot today; whereas yesterday I spent most of the day above 160bpm, today, I could barely push it over 160, and felt like I was working a lot harder than I did yesterday, even though the ride was shorter and flatter.

Still, it’s the second day in a row that I’ve ridden, which is an accomplishment in and of itself, as far as I am concerned. Last year, I didn’t put in my first ride until mid-March; this year I’m already closing in on my first 100 miles; and it’s still 3 weeks until mid-March. As long as the weather stays fairly nice, then I’ll definitely be getting out far more often than I did last year. I’m starting to feel like a cyclist again …

And as soon as it really starts to get nicer, then the plan is to do the commute to South Jordan by bike once or twice (or more) per week …

Big Mountain … not!

After officiating at the Climber’s Trophy (the Utah State Hillclimb Championship) today, I felt like I had to get out and turn my legs over a little bit; at least briefly. I was hot and tired and drained from sitting out in the sun most of the afternoon.

A little more than 10 miles; essentially completely flat (a whopping 450 feet of vertical gained today), and the scary thing? I was slower on the flats, than some of the racers today were up Big Mountain.

But I rode. And I did score two bags of Caffe Ibis Triple Certified (Organic, Free-Trade, Shade-Grown) Espresso Roast as a thank-you for working today … in addition to the pay as a USA Cycling official, of course.

Mmmmm … coffee … yummmmmmmmmmmmmy.

I don’t know if it’s the heat or my (lack of) fitness level, but after only 20 fairly flat miles today, I am completely shattered. At this point, I’m even too tired to get up and walk into the kitchen to try to find something to eat.
