Woke up Saturday morning to clear, blue, perfect skies in Salt Lake City … and drove into pea-soup thick fog in Heber. The course was muddy, thick, sticky, peanut-butter mud, but not the kind of peanut butter that Marit would want to use to make cookies. Of course, the conditions wouldn’t last, and by [...] USGP Cyclocross, presented by Crank Brothers, round #1 Elite Men Mitchell Peterson – Team Devo – 40th place (9th place U23). Sam Krieg – Goble Knee/Siena Development – 42nd place (okay, he’s Idaho, but he races the UTCX Series, so we’ll claim him). Elite Women Kathy Sherwin – Vela Bella-Kona – 13th place. Juniors (17-18) [...] I started. I finished. I came in dead fuckin’ last, 2 laps down on the leaders (including women’s leader Kathy Sherwin, and possibly Dayna Deuter as well), and at least 1 lap down on the entire field. But I finished. I didn’t wimp out again; I didn’t quit … I did take the “shamelessly honorless” [...] I just realized that I’m going to be racing (and getting my ass kicked by) Kathy Sherwin, Dayna Deuter, and the Mistress. I guess that’s better than getting beat by the Hover and Layer clans, all of whom are fine kids … but they’re KIDS! Fort Buenaventura, Ogden, Utah on Saturday. Maybe. Wheeler Farm, Murray, [...] Unfortunately, people are starting to call me on it … even Dr. Cross told me to “Harden the Fuck Up” on Thursday. I really am going to have to suck it up and suit up next weekend; at the VERY least on Sunday at Wheeler Farm, but I might be shamed into racing on Saturday [...] The Doctor‘s second CX clinic of the season was this evening at Sugarhouse Park. Having only spent one brief hour on my bike in the past month, needless to say, I wasn’t really feeling it this evening. When one lap around a basically flat park winds you, then you know you’re fat and out of [...] |
