RUFUS WAINWRIGHT - GOING TO A TOWN

I’m going to a town that has already been burnt down
I’m going to a place that has already been disgraced
I’m gonna see some folks who have already been let down
I’m so tired of America

I’m gonna make it up for all of The Sunday Times
I’m gonna make it up for all of the nursery rhymes
They never really seem to want to tell the truth
I’m so tired of you, America

Making my own way home, ain’t gonna be alone
I’ve got a life to lead, America
I’ve got a life to lead

Tell me, do you really think you go to hell for having loved?
Tell me, enough of thinking everything that you’ve done is good
I really need to know, after soaking the body of Jesus Christ in blood
I’m so tired of America

I really need to know
I may just never see you again, or might as well
You took advantage of a world that loved you well
I’m going to a town that has already been burnt down
I’m so tired of you, America

Making my own way home, ain’t gonna be alone
I’ve got a life to lead, America
I’ve got a life to lead
I got a soul to feed
I got a dream to heed
And that’s all I need

Making my own way home, ain’t gonna be alone
I’m going to a town
That has already been burnt down

STREET DOGS - BACK TO THE WORLD

I got to go back to the world
Back to my girl
Back to my family and kids
Have to go and see my home again
Don’t want my life to end
Before my time is due
And the kids are big

Just got the postal package from my wife and kids
It brings me comfort while I’m stuck in this desert mess
But don’t get me wrong, perform my mission
Just sounding off on my homesick condition
Got to get out, a short timer, my heart it begs for home

I got to go back to the world
Back to my girl
Back to my family and kids
Have to go and see that town again
Don’t want my life to end
Before my time is due
And the kids are big

Seen many a firefight since we deployed out here
Learned how to survive with my friends
Their focus, adrenaline and fear
But the odds haunt me, hope I don’t get hit
Be that body with a flag adorned to it
I’m gonna make it, the short timer, hellbent on going home

I got to go back to the world
Back to my girl
Back to my family and kids
Have to go and sing that song again
Don’t want my life to end
Before my time is due
And the kids are big

I’m not a policy maker
Just a sworn-in order taker
Doing my best to stay alive
I’m gonna make it
To CONUS real soon
Hope some days still lie ahead for me

I got to go back to the world
Back to my girl
Back to my family and kids
Have to go and see my home again
Don’t want my life to end
Before my time is due
And the kids are big

I’ve gotta go back
Too short to turn back
Gotta go back
Back to the world again

Video Poetry (Please Hold)

TIM ARMSTRONG - HOLD ON

I’m gonna hold on to you as long as I can.
I’m gonna hold on to you as long as I can.
And if you choose to leave me, girl, I’ll understand
I’m gonna hold on to you as long as I can.

Just like the Mississippi
Our journey starts in Minnesota
Take I-35 to 90
Soon, through South Dakota

Big “Hi,” to that country road.
Are we gonna make it on down?
She said, “Yeah, Tim.
Aw, Good to see ya.
Hope you all stay around.”

The future’s not the hardest to see.
Do what you do girl,
but please don’t leave.

I’m gonna hold on to you as long as I can.
I’m gonna hold on to you as long as I can.
And if you choose to leave me, girl, I’ll understand
I’m gonna hold on to you as long as I can.

Get down when I wanna, man.
Get through the darkest night.
We were born to ride, now baby,
ride until the morning light

Took a trip down to Kansas,
Missouri, then Arkansas.
Stayed with her sister,
that girl’s above the law.

It’s a mad house, baby.
Fast women, cocaine, and booze.
Toughest of the roughest, (right)
I got nothing to lose.

Before I met ya,
everything was going wrong.
It’s been a long journey, now
girl I wanna take you home.

Video Poetry (Closing Edition)

SEMISONIC - CLOSING TIME

Closing time, open all the doors
And let you out into the world
Closing time, turn all of the lights on
Over every boy and every girl

Closing time, one last call for alcohol
So finish your whisky or beer
Closing time, you don’t have to go home
But you can’t stay here

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

Closing time, time for you to go out
To the places you will be from
Closing time, this room won’t be open
Till your brothers or your sisters come

So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits
I hope you have found a friend
Closing time, every new beginning
Comes from some other beginning’s end, yeah

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

Closing time, time for you to go out
To the places you will be from

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

Closing time, every new beginning
Comes from some other beginning’s end

House-ku

Pre-qual for mortgage;
then search MLS for an
affordable home.

Packing, unpacking
moving, decorating.
Making space your own.
