RECESSION

A grotesquerie for so long we all ignored it: The mammoth plastic Santa lighting up On the Quik-Stop’s roof, presiding over pumps That gleamed and gushed in the tarmac lot below it.

Out back, with pumps of their own, the muttering diesels. And we, for the most part ordinary folks, Took all for granted: [...]

No matter where you go ...

Feeling very down in the dumps today.

A number of friends going through events I can’t really help them with, as much as I want to … I recognize that some things people have to deal with in their own time, in their own manner.

I’m also feeling very isolated & alone myself, [...]

Thanksgiving

Once again, it’s that time of year … time to sit back and reflect on all that I am thankful for.

I continue to rediscover my love for the bicycle, and while my mileage still isn’t where it was several years ago, I was on track to match (and likely surpass) my 2009 mileage, and [...]

Thanksgiving …

Once again, it’s that time of year … time to sit back and reflect on all that I am thankful for.

Work continues to chug along. The bet that I made that our stock would rebound last fall has paid off nicely … I lowered my average cost significantly, and my portfolio is above water [...]

Quote of the Day

Big town’s got its losers Small town’s got its vices A handful of friends One needs a match, one needs some ice Call-waiting phone in another time zone How do you say I miss you to An answering machine? How do say good night to An answering machine?

A quick summary to get caught up

Wow, have I been lax on posting anything original lately. As often happens, life has taken a few unexpected turns and I just haven’t really gotten around to it.

For the past several months, I was dating a really incredible woman. Unfortunately, it was a long-distance relationship and the 800 miles of separation became too [...]

THE KINKS – WATERLOO SUNSET

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, flowing into the night? People so busy, make me feel dizzy, taxi light shines so bright But I don’t need no friends As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset, I am in paradise

(Sha-la-la) Every day I look at the world [...]

Bay Area memories

Sitting at the airport waiting for my plane, waiting for my plane, waiting for my plane … to arrive.

At last check my flight was still on time, but I got through check-in and security fast enough that I’m just waiting and waiting and waiting.

Will be nice to get home and back to [...]

It’s pretty amazing …

… when something that could be really, really good sneaks up on you out of nowhere; when old friends re-enter your life, and it’s even better than it was way back when …

I’m enjoying this.

Another trip around the sun …

CROSSROADS

The second half of my life will be black to the white rind of the old and fading moon. The second half of my life will be water over the cracked floor of these desert years. I will land on my feet this time, knowing at least two languages and who my friends [...]
