What 9/11 will always mean to me

Mom –

Want to wish you the happiest of happy birthdays today … or at least as happy as a day that coincides with the anniversary of a tragedy (and associated socio-political and pseudo-religious BS pervading the media) can be.

I’ve been thinking about family lots lately, and I know that I am truly lucky [...]

2011 Ride #8

Another birthday, another asthma attack. Sun felt good, cold wind did not. Hopefully it will be fairly dry tomorrow so I can give it another shot.

Sometimes, things just have to be said …

… and this is what I’ve recently had to say to the two most important women in my life.

Letter to my mom this past weekend, for her 72nd birthday:

Want to wish you the happiest of happy days today … or at least as happy as a day that coincides with the anniversary of [...]

A Thursday Goal

A HAPPY BIRTHDAY

This evening, I sat by an open window and read till the light was gone and the book was no more than a part of the darkness. I could easily have switched on a lamp, but I wanted to ride this day down into night, to sit alone and smooth the unreadable [...]

Good grief …

Is it just me, or is the fact that the weather is supposed to be crappy on my birthday somehow indicative of my life? At least I’ve got good weather today and tomorrow to ride … and don’t have to work on Thursday or Friday.

[...]

Another trip around the sun …

CROSSROADS

The second half of my life will be black to the white rind of the old and fading moon. The second half of my life will be water over the cracked floor of these desert years. I will land on my feet this time, knowing at least two languages and who my friends [...]

9/11 … 1938

Most the of country is going to be remembering all those people who died in the World Trade Center, on United 93 in Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon, 7 years ago today.

I’m choosing to think about something a little more joyous that happened 70 years ago.

Happy Birthday, Mom! I love you!

Just another day ...

… and another birthday almost past …

I’m having a Douglas Adams kind of day; and while I know that 42 is the answer, I still don’t know the question.

Picked up the Surly from the shop today; getting it ready as a commuter bike … all I need now is the motivation to actually [...]

Arid-Zona

In Arid-Zona for the weekend visiting my mom and stepdad … since I won’t be able to visit for Christmas, this is an off weekend for the UTCX series, and there’s no snow to speak of in the canyons (and since I had a free ticket), I decided to fly down.

So, we’re doing a [...]

9-1-1, what’s your emergency?

Today is my mom’s 69th birthday … which I guess is fabulous in some ways, and downright sucks in other ways; my mom’s birthday will forever have connotations of terrorism.

But at least my mom is relatively healthy, unlike some of my friends’ parents; Train‘s mom had a rough time early this year, but seems [...]
