I think I did a pretty good job of ignoring my heart rate, and just focussed on keeping my legs turning over and over and over and over again. My FTP number dropped so far after the test the other night that I was able to jack it up during the workout today.
The workout was a high-endurance tempo with 8 blocks of 10-minutes each, alternating between 85% and 88% of max, with 2-minutes at 50% effort between each block. I felt pretty good to begin with, so to start, I jacked up my FTP to 120% for the first 4 blocks, then reduced it to 110% for the next two blocks, then 105% for the 7th and 100% for most of the 8th, before jacking it back up to 125% for the last minute of effort … and it hurt.
