A UTCX first (and we think a first anywhere)

Keegan Swenson & Jason Sager in a dead heat.

Today, at the Utah Cyclocross Series Race #7 (held at Wheeler Historic Farm, in Murray, Utah), Keegan Swenson (Cannondale Factory Racing) and Jason Sager (Team Jamis) finished in a dead heat for first place; which we believe to be a first, not only in history in Utah Cyclocross, but in cyclocross in general, anywhere.

The FinishLynx camera we use at the finish can detect time differences down to about 1/2000th of a second. That’s 0.0005 seconds; and yet in this photo finish, to the pixel (even at highest resolution), this race was too close to call as anything other than a dead heat; a tie for first place.

I don’t think it gets any more amazing.

    1. The camera showed them in a dead heat down to the pixel on the hi-res image. That’s around 1/2000th of a second.

We’re talking fractions of a millimeter difference … too close to call, even with the picture. It was unreal.

  1. Holy Cow! that is crazy. I think they are more likely to get a dead heat due to those fat cross tires. I really like that you have that finish line camera at a cross race. Can I steal the pic for a post at velocanoose? Link back wherever you want.

  2. Need to work on their bike throws. Sager looks like he is rolling in for 10th and Keegan is just about to start a little thrust.
