British cyclists—powered by coffee
22 Tuesday Mar 2011
How many of my readers were aware that cyclists like coffee? This is certainly news to me!
Plenty of us need it as a pick-me-up in the morning, but would you have had Britain’s finest track cyclists down as coffee addicts?
It turns out the GB team are every bit as keen on the bean as desk-dwellers hugging their mugs at work.
And with two of Britain’s top team pursuiters – Bradley Wiggins and Geraint Thomas – away on road-racing duty, one of the squad’s leading baristas has the chance to blend with the world’s best at next week’s Track World Championships in the Netherlands.
Yeah, okay, so I lied … of course cyclists like coffee. There are innumerable brands of cycling related coffee beans and accessories. From well-known sponsors (like Jittery Joe’s) and Saeco to mugs and vacuum bottles (commonly known as Thermoses) designed to fit in a bicycle’s bottle cage, I think one could quite easily say that coffee is the cyclist’s best friend.
There’s nothing like a that perfect crema to get the day going.
