With apologies to Gene Autry:

Back in the saddle again
Spinning my legs like a fiend,
Where the fixed-gear riders roll,
On the goddamned chip seal roads.
Oh, I’m back in the saddle again.

Whoopi-ty-aye-oh!
Rockin’ to and fro,
Back in the saddle again.
Whoopi-ty-aye-yay!
I go my way,
Back in the saddle again.

Woke up this morning to shitty weather (temperatures in the 40s and rain … not temps in the 20s or 30s and sun or snow), and had to figure out what to do; needed to get out of the house today and do something physical. Contemplated going up to Deer Valley to ski groomers, but was told that many of the lifts were closed for a “wind event” … situation appeared to be the same at Solitude. Thought about going up to the Solitude Nordic Center and renting some skate gear and flailing about.

Ultimately decided to get out on the fixed-gear to put in the first miles of the 2011 year. About 12.7 miles, mostly flat (I think I did a total of 330 feet of vertical), heart rate sucked in the mid-150s most of the time, but I didn’t hack up lung, I didn’t crash, my arm seemed to take the road shock okay, especially on the chip-seal, and since I did it on the fixed-gear, I was working the entire time.

As usually, I’ll be uploading my rides to Garmin Connect, although it seems to be having some issues connecting right now, so you’ll have to wait to see all the detail, if you’re in the slightest bit interested.
