As some of you know, I crashed hard a couple weeks ago (September 25, 2010), and broke my arm good … a clean break of the humerus at the surgical neck.

As near as I can tell, I hit a small sinkhole in the pavement … not a pothole, because the asphalt is still there, but it looks like there may have been a bubble in the underlying asphalt, and the surface layer just sunk in. It’s very difficult to see when you stand there looking at it, but it’s definitely noticeable when you hit it with a bicycle tire or step in it.

I need to go back and take a couple pictures of the crash site, but the results of the crash are as follows:

Front view of surgical site, right arm & shoulder. Red line is fracture site.

And so, I now have a titanium plate in my arm for quite possibly the rest of my life, and a lovely scar from my shoulder to my armpit … not to mention the road rash on my right elbow & forearm and both palms which still hasn’t quite healed. And I’m off the bike for at least another 4 weeks according to the doctor.

Since the crash was caused by unsafe road conditions, I wonder if I can get the City of Holladay (who I believe are responsible for streets within the City) to cover the portion of my bills/expenses that are not being paid by my insurance.
