Willows of the East Gate

Eastgate’s willows …
leaves full of dawn light.
Evening it was we set to meet: now
morning star is gazing bright.

Eastgate’s willow
leaves are emptied of the moonlight,
evening was our rendezvous.
Now morning star: and cutting shafts of sunlight.

  — From the Shih Ching, author unknown.
