Isolation
When your lips see my lips they bring
That sorrowful and outcast thing
My heart home from its wandering.
Then ere your lips have loosed their hold,
I feel my heart’s heat growing cold,
And my heart shivers and grows old.
When your lips leave my lips, again
I feel the old doubt and the old pain
Tight about me like a chain.
After the pain, after the doubt,
A lonely darkness winds about
My soul like death, and shuts you out.
— Arthur Symons (1865 - 1945), Welsh poet and critic.
Refugee
Loneliness terrific beats on my heart,
Bending the bitter broken boughs of pain.
Stunned by the onslaught that tears the sky apart
I stand with unprotected head against the rain.
Loneliness terrific turns to panic and to fear.
I hear my footsteps on the stairs of yesteryear,
Where are you? Oh, where are you?
Once so dear.
So the past couple days, the stock market has been down; including a little mini-crash (or “market correction”) yesterday … what does this mean? Well, for me it means that since Friday, I’ve lost almost $4,000.00.
So what do I do? I take the opportunity to rebalance, shifting some money out of my stable value fund to buy more of my company’s stock. We’ll find out today if this was a good plan, or if I should have waited.
In other news, the Financial Times is reporting:
The rapid expansion of biofuel production may be welcome news for environmentalists but for the world’s beer drinkers it could be a different story.
Strong demand for biofuel feedstocks such as corn, soyabeans and rapeseed is encouraging farmers to plant these crops instead of grains like barley, driving up prices.
It’s a good thing I’m a vodka drinker, because as we know, vodka can be distilled from damned near anything; even grapes, as evidenced by my current favorite, Ciroc … mmm, yummy.

Wonder if I’m ever gonna get any that’s not induced by either prescription or homeopathic drugs or hormones?
Time for an Ambien-induced coma; hopefully I’ll be able to wake up at my normal hour in the morning!
At least I got my good deed in for the day, by taking food to an ailing colleague who is currently recovering from knee surgery, after work this evening …
Snow tonight, snow tomorrow, chances of snow on Wednesday … as long as it keeps dumping, I’m looking forward to heading back up BCC this weeknd.
dear cousin, i got your letter
it was more than i thought i deserved
well she sounds perfect, all i dream of
and i dream about so much it is absurd
but when i get there and she sees me
i’ll be impressed if she does not run screaming
my kind of love is an ugly love
but it’s real and it lasts a long, long time
i had a thought while i was sleeping
and i dreamed about a place for us to rest
eternity under the old oak tree
but i go too far i guess
maybe i’ll think about tomorrow
and maybe i can get her to stay that long
’cause my kind of love is an ugly love
but it’s real and it lasts a long, long time
and if she finds me so repulsive
she wouldn’t be the first to retch
well i decided one day long ago
i was never gonna be the greatest catch
and if she cares about the car i drive
then she can get in hers the moment i arrive
’cause my kind of love is an ugly love
but it’s real and it lasts a long, long time
What an incredible day at Solitude and in Big Cottonwood Canyon in general … simply gorgeous!
Sick pow in Honeycomb Canyon, which completely worked my legs. Tried several new (for me) runs, including the Cirque (coming off Powderhorn), Serenity (coming off Eagle Express) and Rhapsody (also off Eagle Express), hitting as many runs through the trees in Honeycomb Canyon as possible, and I took another run at the Corner Chute which led to my downfall a few weeks ago.
The only problem I had today was when some asshole pinhead (telemark skier) sharing one of my chairs, knocked me coming off the Sunrise lift, sending me head over heels into the cones; not even bothering to stop to see if I was okay, or to apologize. Just goes to show that there are assholes everywhere.
Only 10,900 feet of vertical today, but that’s okay, considering I was only up there for 4 hours, and the difficulty of a number of the runs I attempted.
And many thanks to everyone who stopped and provided assistance when the Trooper got stuck in the snow on the side of the road when I stopped to take one of the photos below.

I can’t believe the Trooper got stuck for this photo! But I think it was worth it …

Officially, only 7 more inches of fresh pow at Solitude, but Snowbird got 22 inches, so I’m betting there are some stashes of deep hidden away at Solitude …
Drinking my morning coffee; then shower, get dressed and I’m out!

Five inches of fresh snow starting at about 3:00 am until 7:00 am this morning up at Solitude, with another 9 to 16-inches expected during the day today.
Looks like Saturday’s gonna be a great ski day, clear, sunny, and not too cold; all I need to do is get my pull myself out of the funk I’m currently in and get my head back in the game before tomorrow morning, because I don’t want to have the same kind of day that I did 3 weeks ago, when I hurt my back.
Then, good chances of more snow on Sunday and Monday … and again on Wednesday the 28th.
Avalanche danger is reported to be high in the backcountry, but I’m a resort skier, so I’m not too worried about slides. Speaking of, the Utah Avalanche Center is seeking a much-needed increase in funding from the Utah State Legislature. The decision is expected by the end of the month, so if you haven’t already done so, contact your representative and urge additional funding. Snowbird’s website has more info.
